Video Games are a new skill and opportunity for many kids to use to take their schooling to the next step.  With the addition of E-Sports stadiums at the Marshalltown High School and Marshalltown Community College, it is another bridge bringing students from the High School to our Community College.  Amber Lawthers, a Marshalltown High School Graduate, decided to try out E-Sports at the beginning of this school year and has found a niche.  Amber is 28-0 heading into the National Mario Kart tournament.  Amber wasn’t sure if she was going to play for the team originally hearing the main games were Overwatch and Rainbow Siege 6.  Once she found out about Mario Kart, she knew she was in.  Amber is so good that the one-on-one competitive format is boring because Lawthers runs circles around her opponents, literally, often lapping them in a three-lap race.  Out of all 36 competitors in the national finals, Lawthers will be one of the top two seeds, the other plays for Iowa Western Community College, and Lawthers is hopeful her drifting, item grabbing and shortcut finding skills will carry her to the top.
