The Marshalltown School Board meeting last night took the time to review the At-Risk students budget. Shauna Smith, Marshalltown Director of Learning provided the information to the school board. She presented information on drop out totals and graduation rate. There was 1 interesting note about the graduation rate around COVID.
Some students after the shutdown didn’t even come back, Shauna said. The drop out totals have grown in recent years, and grown again this school year to a total of 104, compared to 88 last year. Drop out total and graduation rate are similar but not the same.
Shauna said she doesn’t have the official graduation rate yet from the state for 2021/2022 school year as that always lags behind. Marshalltown graduated 90% in 2019/2020 school year and would like to get back to that number.
