Marshalltown Compost Facility may see some new hours moving forward. Heather Thomas presented the current hours of operation and the days where the compost facility ran a deficit. Heather suggested closing the compost facility for 3 days each week.
That was Councilor Gary Thompson, Councilor Jeff Schneider quickly spoke up and said it should be open Friday too. Commercial agencies have an option to get a compost license for $500 a year that gives them access to the facility 24/7. They have a gate key and we have cameras to monitor them outside of normal hours.
The Council did vote 7-0 to cut down on hours to the facility to Friday – Sunday. The Commercial agencies will need to get the compost license to have access 24/7.
