Kim Reynolds feels that our current state government is inefficient and has a priority this legislative session to change it. Iowa’s current state of government structure has not be reviewed since the farm crisis, in the 1980s. The governors plan is to have 37 cabinet agencies merge down to 16. The Iowa Veterans Home and the Veteran Affairs would be merged in the Governors plan, both would then be over seen by Iowa Veterans Home Commandant, Todd Jacobus. House Speaker Pat Grassley said Reynolds plan to consolidate has worked in the past, pointing to the newly combined Department of Health and Human Services. Governor Reynolds worked with consultants on this plan and believes that this will save Iowa $215 million over the course of 4 years.
