Recently the Marshalltown City Council came up with some different strategies to balance the budget. One suggestion was to have the Marshall County Communication Center pay more in rent. The MCCC is currently housed at the Marshalltown Police and Fire building, and pays $1 a year in rent.
That is Sheriff Joel Phillips who spoke as the MCCC chairman last night. Ronda Braudis also spoke, noting that many of the city government non-emergency lines are listed as the communication center. Which lead to Marshalltown Police Chief Tupper to speak.
Whether its Chief Tupper or Sheriff Phillips they are trying their best to be fiscally responsible, which makes this challenging as someone has to foot the bill.
The City Council voted 5-1 to terminate the lease, which will go into effect Feb. 29, 2024.
