Marshalltown Fire Chief, Dave Rierson, joined KFJB for a Central Iowa Today spot last week to talk about the Open Burn ordinance starting April 1st.  This is different from having a fire in your fire pit, the Open Burn ordinance is about burning yard waste.

You can only burn in single family dwellings, so those who live in an apartment building cannot burn outside.  You also cannot burn on your neighbors yard, you can only burn yard waste on your own property.

If you are burning yard waste on your yard, you must be 50 feet from any building or structure.  If you are using a container, like a fire pit or oil barrel, you only need to be 15 feet from buildings.
