June 1st to July 8th is the legal window in Iowa when residents can purchase and fire off fireworks in the state of Iowa. Marshalltown, however, has a city ordinance that fines a homeowner where fireworks are discharged. Marshalltown Police Chief, Mike Tupper, reminds people that the ordinance is just for city limits. Last year there were 263 complaints of fireworks within Marshalltown, this month they have already received 2. People are still able to purchase fireworks in town, there will be some tents set up at Menards, Theisens, and Walmart. There will be other temporary locations set up around town as well.
