Monday night, in the Marshalltown City Council Chambers, 2 of the 3 levies that are being taken away by the state was discussed. The Municipal band, funding for the Marshalltown Arts and Civic Center, and the Public Library levy. As we discussed yesterday, the Council voted 4 – 3 to NOT fund the Municipal Band. The next item was discussing $100,000 for the MACC. Community members gave a bit of history of why the MACC, formerly the Fisher Community Center, was built and the purpose behind the building. Other Community members discussed that other projects should take priority. The Council voted 4 – 3 on this item in favor of SUPPORTING the MACC with $100,000. Al Hoop was the change in vote, he voted against funding the municipal band but voted in favor of funding the MACC. The item will be brought as a resolution in the coming meetings.
