Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds, joined the KFJB line last week to talk about AEAs, Area Education Agencies, and the bill that is being worked on in the legislature. She mentions how Iowa has not scored well in the last 5 years for kids with disabilities.
Since 2018, the Department of Education has labeled Iowa as a needs assistance. Reynolds was also asked about the AEA building in Marshalltown. It is a media services building part of the Central Rivers AEA in Cedar Falls.
The plan Reynolds has laid out would shift the money going to the AEA’s to the school districts. Then school districts can pick and choose the services they need from the AEA’s. Those against this plan say it is has 1 flaw, if the AEA’s no longer exist, due to lack of funding, where will schools get those services?
