Announced by the Marshalltown Community School District the High School will be virtual today, Friday, February 23rd. The school district is utilizing this day to further ventilate the building and confirm previous tests to validate the safety of the learning environment. On Tuesday, Feb. 20, concerns were shared with administrators about an odd smell and visible fumes within the high school. Currently, Marshalltown High School has demolition and welding work underway for the Career and Technical Education building project. Crews, as part of their standard operating procedure, had several air quality monitors placed in the construction area which were fully functional and giving acceptable readings. Upon hearing concerns, work ceased out of an abundance of caution, and crew members set up additional monitors inside the building which continued to register acceptable air quality readings. The Marshalltown Fire Department has also run tests on air quality and they all rendered acceptable readings. This closure is of an abundance of caution, for further questions please contact the Central Office.
