Announced earlier this week, the Newton City Council voted to raise water rates for the Rural Utility Company, Iowa Regional Utilities Association.  The Iowa Regional Utilities Association purchase water from Newton and other locations.  Shelli Lovell, Marshalltown Water Works GM, explains how IRUA works.

IRUA does cover some of our rural listeners, such as those who live in Melbourne or Laural.  They will see an increase in their water bill.  Lovell talks about how Marshalltown is self sufficient and in a good position with our water.

Lovell talks about how Marshalltown Water Works is currently replacing a well.  They are digging a new hole, called Well Number 5, this will add to their source water supply.
