The Marshalltown Community School District has finalized the budget for the next school year, which means the tax rate is set. The rate will be $14.75 per $1000 of valuation. This rate has come down a lot from the high of $18.29 in 2021, according to Superintendent, Dr. Theron Schutte.
Dr. Schutte also mentions the federal COVID dollars allowed the school district to get creative with their spending. He then talks about the PPEL vote passing, which would add 67 cents to the PPEL portion of the tax rate.
Dr. Schutte says the school district is almost at their limit for cash reserves, which puts them in a fantastic position financially and allows them to lower the tax rate year after year.
