March Pack the Backpack Winner: Mrs. Kendra Hamilton

Pack the Backpack, presented by Central Office Supply, a division of Minuteman and Kix 101.1! Each month during the school year, we will be awarding $101 to a Kix Country classroom to help out with supplies. We will award the prize on the last Wednesday of the month. You can listen to each new winner at 8:30a on the Morning Kix Start.

Our March winner is Nevada Central Elementary 1st/2nd Multiage Teacher, Kendra Hamilton. She was nominated by former student, Ava Frerk, who wrote to Kix 101.1:

I think Mrs. Hamilton should get the money because when I was in multiage first & second grade, she was very nice to me & my classmates & she helped us when we needed it. She also teaches in a way that made kids want to keep learning. Whenever it was time to clean up at the end of the day, she played music that kids could pick. When lunch & recess were over, she did kids yoga that helped us all calm down. I think she could use this money to get stuff for her classroom & more supplies for the students she has now & will have later on in her life. That is why I think she deserves the money. She is very useful & loving & could use the money for good causes.

Ava Frerk

Take a listen to our surprise interview with Mrs. Hamilton below!

Ira Dean Tel-Man, Johnny Cash, Trick Pony and more

What a pleasure it was to talk with Ira Dean. The interview was recorded in August when Iowa was dealing with "corn sweat".  We talked about how he got his job with Tanya Tucker, I asked him about Trick Pony and how Heidi Newfield join the group.

Ira shared how he met Johnny Cash, his wife June through their son John Jr. So many great stories one that hit Ira pretty hard-a conversation he had with Charlie Daniels.

His current single was a tribute to his mom who had recently passed. Then he shared about this new song...Tel-Man!!

A special thank you to Lynne Connolly for setting up this chance to talk to Ira. I hope it won't be the last. Also a huge shoutout to Ira's label 8-Track Entertainment for this beautiful autographed Telecaster guitar!!!

The List for Tuesday, January 21st 2025

Welcome to The List,

With the Inauguration yesterday…the question is…Who was the most bad A** movie president??  Harrison Ford's character in "Air Force One" tops the list followed by Bill Pullman in "Independence Day" and Jamie Foxx in "White House Down".

-----

Carrie Underwood had to sing "America the Beautiful" a cappella at the inauguration thanks to a technical glitch.  She was also just on the floor with no stage, and "The Daily Mail" claims she was annoyed about that.  Everyone online thought she shined though, and handled the moment very well.

-----

Zach Bryan promised to release a new song called, "Blue Jean Baby" on Sunday . . . But only if the Philadelphia Eagles win the NFC championship against the Washington Commanders…something tells me he’ll release it anyway…

-----

Is Demi Moore dating Andrew Garfield?  We don’t know but the two were seen together at Demi's Sun Valley home in Idaho. She is 62 while he is 41.

You can catch The List, weekday afternoons at 4:20 with Jonathan Knight. Only on Iowa’s BEST Country KIX 101.1
