October Pack the Backpack Winner: Mrs. Ruby Johnson

Pack the Backpack, presented by Central Office Supply, a division of Minuteman and Kix 101.1! Each month during the school year, we will be awarding $101 to a Kix Country classroom to help out with supplies. We will award the prize on the last Wednesday of the month. You can listen to each new winner at 8:30a on the Morning Kix Start.

Our October winner is 3rd Grade Teacher at South Hamilton Elementary, Ruby Johnson. She was nominated by her co-worker, Alison Hassebrock, who wrote to Kix 101.1:

Hi Kix 101.1!  I would like to nominate Rebecca (Ruby) Johnson, a third grade teacher at South Hamilton Elementary School in Jewell, Iowa.  Ruby is a busy mother of five and all of her children are active and just as generous as their mother.  Ruby teaches more than just academics.  Mrs. Johnson teaches students to love, to be kind, to make good choices, and to love life!  She is as adventurous as her students! An avid hiker, climber, kayaker, bicyclist and runner, Ruby doesn’t slow down.  She welcomes third graders every morning with her warm smile.  Ruby teaches science and it is not unusual to hear about the crayfish she has students investigating.  She also hatches Monarch butterflies and will care for just about any living creature while teaching her students to do the same.  Mrs. Johnson is an example of what teaching really is.  She believes everyone can learn, everyone can do great things, and everyone deserves the best.  I nominate Mrs. Johnson because she is an educator who always gives it her all, goes the extra mile, and she is an educator I respect and look up to.  Please consider Ruby for this honor.

Regards,

Alison Hassebrock

First Grade Teacher

He’s been raving about Reba to Martha, who clearly can’t stand the competition.’

The big fight between Mike Tyson and youtuber Jake Paul is Friday and Jake wore a $100,000 diamond-spiked ear protector to a press conference. That's some expert-level trolling right there. Mike Tyson is set to earn $20 million for his fight against Jake Paul. Paul aims to make $40 million.
